Therefore, in 1962, the US Department of Defense published its military standard for rugged devices - MIL-STD-810 - regarding environmental effects on equipment. The commercial and industrial segments also started to incorporate rugged devices with the increasing benefits of using them. Therefore, the ruggedness levels have been broken down into three segments: semi-rugged, fully rugged, and ultra-rugged. The military mostly uses the ultra-rugged devices.
